Built Environment Innovation in Practice @AEC Hackathon 2026

Published on June 8, 2026

For one weekend in end of March 2026, BLOXHUB transformed into an intensive innovation lab where architects, engineers, developers, designers and students worked side by side to tackle some of the built environment’s most pressing challenges.

AEC Hackathon 2026 brought together 79 participants from 34 countries, forming 17 multidisciplinary teams around 12 industry challenges provided by partners including RIB Software, ConTech Lab, Rambøll, Henning Larsen, PropTech Denmark, and We Build Denmark.

This year’s projects demonstrated a clear shift from exploring what technology can do, to investigating how it can create meaningful value in practice.
Across the weekend, teams developed tools and concepts addressing challenges such as:
  • AI-assisted BIM and construction workflows
  • Urban intelligence and digital twins
  • Biodiversity in cities and public participation
  • Human-centred planning and liveability analysis
  • Construction regulation accessibility
  • Material reuse and data interoperability
Several projects explored how fragmented urban and construction data can be transformed into actionable insights through AI, simulation, visualization, and conversational interfaces. Others focused on reducing barriers between technical systems and everyday users, making complex information more accessible to planners, municipalities, citizens, and practitioners.
Importantly, the hackathon also demonstrated how rapidly ideas can evolve when multidisciplinary teams work intensively together. More than a showcase of emerging technologies, the hackathon functioned as a testing ground for new ways of collaborating, designing, and solving challenges in the built environment.
